Tripathi: Enjoyed a lot, and knew winning against KKR was special. I did expect the ball to be pitched up, and it was up, so I went ahead with the shot. It’s been very special with KKR, and now with the Sunrisers, the first few games have gone nicely. There are days when it gets tough, but on the good days, I look to enjoy every moment.

Kane Williamson: It was a step up. Kolkata keep coming hard. It was a competitive total and then a little bit of dew came in. The death bowling was superb too. Rahul played a superb knock as did Markram. (On Jansen and Markram) Both big players for us. (Jansen) He’s been a big part of our attack along with Bhuvneshwar. The guys are working really hard and there are signs of improvement.

IPL 2022 Points Table Update: Both KKR and SRH are among the six teams locked on six points each, but Kolkata (4th) find themselves three places above Hyderabad thanks to their superior Net Run Rate. Hyderabad, though, are certainly on the rise after getting off to a shaky start with back-to-back defeats.

FIFTY up for Aiden Markram — his second this season! What a knock this has been from the South African, who has smashed five fours and two sixes so far and forged a brilliant 94-run third-wicket stand with Tripathi. The way he’s going about business at the moment, he should easily guide his team past the finish line. SRH 156/3

Tripathi’s exit makes little difference to KKR’s hopes of mounting a late comeback as Markram smashes Chakravarthy, who replaces Yadav, for a four and a six off consecutive balls to inch closer to his half-century. 13 from the over, with the Sunrisers going past the 150-mark in this over. Less than a run-a-ball now for the Sunrisers, who need 23 off the last 24.

Umesh returns to the attack on the other side of the interval. Umesh starts off on a tidy note, conceding two singles in the first three balls, before Markram collects a hat-trick of fours to push SRH’s run rate past nine, with the asking rate a little above eight-an-over. The first boundary though, was a streaky one as Markram got a top-edge that nearly resulted in a catch for keeper Jackson near short fine. SRH need 49 off 36.

Some lovely grass coverage here. Good pace and bounce. Batters have made the most in the early stages here. Only 68 metres to clear the fence at point, not a big hit at all. I say bat first and put runs on the board. It’s a really good surface.

Finch to make his debut for KKR!

Australia white-ball captain Aaron Finch is set to make his appearance for a ninth different franchise in the Indian Premier League. Finch has been handed his maiden cap by team mentor David Hussey minutes before toss. He’s not the only debutant though, with Aman Khan also making his debut for the two-time champions today.

In cricket, there is a saying that a leadership role makes a player more ‘mature’, both on and off the field. The added responsibility urges an individual to set an example for his/her teammates with his/her own performance to earn the respect from them. And in this process the player ends up adding more skills to his/her own craft.

This is exactly what is happening with Hardik Pandya in this season of IPL.

The Shreyas Iyer-led Kolkata Knight Riders are off to a positive start in IPL 2022, finding themselves at the second spot in the points table. Sunrisers Hyderabad, led by New Zealand skipper Kane Williamson are back in business after losing their first two games by beating Chennai Super Kings and Gujarat Titans — both by eight wickets — in their last two outings.

Chahar ruled out; DC physio tests positive for COVID

In a major blow to CSK’s hopes of successfully defending their title and lift the trophy for a record-equalling fifth time, bowling all-rounder Deepak Chahar was ruled out for the entire season. Chahar had suffered a hamstring injury in February during the home series against the West Indies, and has been out of action since.

As for the development that could potentially affect the entire tournament, DC physio Patrick Farhart has tested positive for COVID and is being closely monitored by the Delhi medical team at the moment.
