Dhruv Jurel became an internet sensation after his gritty counterattacking knock led India to a series win over England on Monday. After scoring an invaluable 90 in the first innings, Jurel smashed 39 not out off 7 balls under pressure to guide India to a five-wicket win at Ranchi as India took an unassailable 3-1 lead in the series with just one match to go.
In the first innings, Jurel, playing at the home ground of his idol MS Dhoni, made a fighting 90 which helped India to cross 300-run mark after England posted a daunting 353 on a slow and low pitch. In the second innings, he came in with India reeling at 120/5 in a chase of 195.
With Shoaib Bashir breathing fire and India under the pump, Jurel displayed immense maturity and mental strength to guide the hosts to a series-clinching victory. He forged an unbeaten 72-run stand with Shubman Gill, who finished on 55 not out.
