India continued their domination in home Tests with a five-wicket victory over England in Ranchi on Monday as they extended their record unbeaten streak at home to 17-0. England were the last team to beat India in a Test series at home, clinching a 2-1 win in 2012. Since then India have won 17 Test series in a row at home - a record for most consecutive Test series wins at home. The second best is 10 for Australia who managed the feat between 1994 and 2000.
The victory in the fourth Test helped India take an unassailable 3-1 lead in the five-match series with the last match to take place in Dharamsala from 7 March.
Overall, since the 2012 Test series against England, India have won a total of 39 out of 50 Tests, losing just four times - two times each to Australia and England.
From overnight 40/0 in a chase of 192, India got home after surviving multiple blows on a dramatic day of cricket. Opening duo of skipper Rohit Sharma (55 off 81 balls) and Yashasvi Jaiswal (37 of 44 balls) provided the perfect platform for others to build with their 84-run stand.
There were some jitters after the two departed in close succession followed by Rajat Patidar and Ravindra Jadeja’s dismissal but Shubman Gill (52 not out) and Dhruv Jurel (39 not out) guided the team past the finishing line with an unbeaten 72-run partnership.
