This is the first time Gill has met Rohit after being named the new ODI captain. There was a lot of buzz on social media regarding Rohit’s removal from the post after the BCCI announced the squad for the Australia series. Many fans even criticised India head coach Gautam Gambhir and chief selector Ajit Agarkar for taking the captaincy away from Rohit.
Meanwhile, the warm moment between Gill and Rohit shows that everything is fine inside the dressing room. This is also the first time Rohit and Kohli have returned to the national side since winning the ICC Champions Trophy 2025 nine months ago. They have retired from Tests and T20Is and are available for the 50-over format only.
