Afghanistan won the toss and opted to field against South Africa in their T20 World Cup Group D match in Ahmedabad on Wednesday, with both teams making one change each. Both teams opted for an extra spinner in place of a seamer in their lineup – the Afghans replacing Zia-ur Rahman Sharifi with Noor Ahmad and the Proteas replacing Corbin Bosch with George Linde.

South Africa had begun their T20 World Cup campaign with a commanding 57-run victory over Canada at the same venue on Monday. Captain Markram had top-scored for the Proteas with a knock of 59 off 32 deliveries while David Miller (39 not out) and Tristan Stubbs (34 not out) had helped their team finish on an imposing 213/4 with an unbroken 75-run partnership for the fourth wicket.

Lungi Ngidi later led the way with a haul of 4/31 as the Canadians were restricted to 156/8 in reply, Navneet Dhaliwal top-scoring for them with a knock of 64 off 49 deliveries.
Afghanistan, on the other hand, had suffered a five-wicket defeat at the hands of New Zealand in their opening match against New Zealand in Chennai on Sunday, despite posting a challenging total of 182/6 on the board thanks to Gulbadin Naib’s sparkling 63.
