Mithun Manhas has reportedly been picked by the powers that be to be the next Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) president. The former Delhi batter, who had a highly successful domestic career ranging from 1997 to 2017 but never played for India, is set to become the first uncapped cricketer to head the Indian cricket board.
The elections for the president will take place on 28 September during the Annual General Meeting (AGM), however, Sunday (21 September) is the final date of filing the nomination. Manhas is expected to be in Mumbai on Sunday to file his nominations.
Reports have also stated that Karnataka State Cricket Association (KSCA) president Raghuram Bhat is also in the race to become the next BCCI president. However, he most likely will take up the treasurer post.
The BCCI in the last few years, under the BJP government in the centre, has opted for former cricketers as its president, including Sourav Ganguly and Roger Binny. But Manhas’ elevation from Jammu and Kashmir Cricket Association (JKCA) Director of Cricket Operations to BCCI president will be quite something.
Manhas, who was born in Jammu, played the majority of his domestic cricket in Delhi. He is also considered one of the finest domestic batters who never got a chance to play for India, as the team had superstars like Rahul Dravid, Sachin Tendulkar, Sourav Ganguly and VVS Laxman during his playing days.
