India will play South Africa in a one-off warm-up match ahead of the ICC T20 World Cup 2026. The match will be held at the Dr DY Patil Sports Academy in Navi Mumbai on Wednesday, February 4. This game will give both teams a good chance to test their combinations before the main tournament begins.
India are coming into the World Cup in excellent form. They recently finished a five-match T20I series against New Zealand, winning it comfortably by a 4-1 margin. Since winning the T20 World Cup in 2024, India have been in dominant touch and have won 11 straight T20I series.
However, India do have one concern going into the World Cup. Opener Sanju Samson has struggled for form and managed only 46 runs in five matches against New Zealand. With Tilak Varma returning from injury and performing well for India A against the USA, and Ishan Kishan scoring some runs, Samson’s place in the playing XI could be under threat.
Suryakumar Yadav will lead India in the T20 World Cup 2026. This will be his first major ICC tournament as captain.
South Africa, meanwhile, toured India late last year for an all-format series. They lost the five-match T20I series 3-1 but have since regained some momentum. The Proteas recently defeated West Indies 2-1 in a T20I series in January and will look to build confidence ahead of the World Cup.
