India vs South Africa Live Score 2nd Test Day 4 Updates: South Africa are on the verge of winning their first Test series in India in 25 years, having taken full control of the second Test in Guwahati. After dismissing India for 201 in the first innings and taking a 288-run lead, Temba Bavuma chose to bat again on Day 3 and extended the advantage to 314 without losing a wicket.
Aiden Markram and Ryan Rickelton took the Proteas to 26/0 after 8 overs at stumps on Day 3, as Jasprit Bumrah, Mohammed Siraj, Ravindra Jadeja, and Kuldeep Yadav failed to provide a breakthrough. South Africa will look to further extend their lead before eventually asking India to bat again later today.
Can India make a comeback in this Test?
Meanwhile, India have no option but to take early wickets to give themselves a chance. Having already lost the first Test in Kolkata by 30 runs, India face the prospect of losing the series in Guwahati. If that happens, it would mark their second home Test whitewash in less than a year, raising serious questions about Gautam Gambhir and his team.
Earlier on Day 3, India suffered yet another batting collapse, with only Washington Sundar and Kuldeep Yadav showing some resistance down the order. Stand-in captain Rishabh Pant grabbed headlines after playing a rash shot to lose his wicket at a crucial stage, when India needed him to rebuild the innings following the quick dismissals of KL Rahul, Yashasvi Jaiswal, Sai Sudharsan, and Dhruv Jurel.
Marco Jansen consolidates POTM award
Marco Jansen was the pick of the bowlers for South Africa, finishing with a six-wicket haul. This came after he scored a crucial 90 runs on Day 2 to rescue South Africa from an early collapse, as he and centurion Senuran Muthusamy added valuable runs to take the team to 489 in the first innings.
India have a steep mountain to climb on Day 4, but it won’t be easy, as South Africa are in a comfortable position to win from here. They will have to mess up really badly to avoid a result that is less than a series sweep.
