Pakistan vs India match boycott U-turn Live Updates: Pakistan’s government has taken a major U-turn on its decision to boycott the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup 2026 match against India. The reversal came late on Monday night after days of negotiations between the International Cricket Council (ICC), the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) and the Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB). It was subsequently confirmed that Pakistan will take the field against India in Colombo on February 15.
“The Government of Pakistan has reviewed the formal requests extended to the PCB by the Bangladesh Cricket Board, as well as the supporting communications from Sri Lanka, the United Arab Emirates, and other member nations. These correspondences sought Pakistan’s leadership in securing a viable solution to recent challenges.
“In view of the outcomes achieved in multilateral discussions, as well as the request of friendly countries, the Government of Pakistan hereby directs the Pakistan National Cricket Team to take the field on February 15, 2026, for its scheduled fixture in the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup,” the statement from the Government of Pakistan said.

Pakistan had earlier decided to boycott the India game in solidarity with Bangladesh, who were thrown out of the tournament and replaced by Scotland after refusing to travel to India, citing security concerns. Bangladesh had requested the ICC to relocate their matches following the removal of Mustafizur Rahman from IPL 2026 without what they described as a valid reason. Despite repeated attempts by the ICC to convince them, Bangladesh stood firm, forcing the global body to replace them.
In response, Pakistan accused the ICC of double standards and threatened to withdraw from the tournament in support of Bangladesh. The PCB cited India’s example from the 2025 Champions Trophy, where India were allowed to play their matches at a neutral venue after refusing to travel to Pakistan. Eventually, Pakistan agreed to participate in the World Cup, but with the condition that they would not face India.
This stance raised serious concerns within the ICC, as the India vs Pakistan clash is considered the most lucrative fixture in world cricket. The absence of the match could have significantly impacted the tournament’s revenue and sponsorship deals. As a result, the ICC initiated backchannel talks with the PCB and other stakeholders, following which Pakistan finally made a U-turn and agreed to play the fixture.
