India vs New Zealand 2nd ODI Highlights: Daryl Mitchell stars with the bat, smashing an unbeaten 131 and forging a mammoth third-wicket partnership with Will Young (87) as New Zealand chase down the 285-run target set by India in Rajkot, leveling the three-match ODI series with a game to follow. The Black Caps were off to a shaky start with Harshit Rana and Prasidh Krishna’s strikes reducing them to 46/2 in the 13th over. Mitchell and Young, however, steered the ship quite brilliantly through the middle overs, with some dropped chances and ordinary bowling aiding their cause. Earlier in the evening, KL Rahul had struck an unbeaten 112 to help India post a competitive 284/7 on the board after being invited to bat by the Kiwis at the Niranjan Shah Stadium. After a thrilling four-wicket win in the opener at Vadodara, the Indian team, led by Shubman Gill with stars Virat Kohli and Rohit Sharma returning in the ODI format, will be eager to continue their winning momentum.

However, India face a slight problem with Washington Sundar ruled out due to a rib injury. All eyes will be on who replaces him in the playing XI, with Nitish Kumar Reddy emerging as a strong candidate. While Ayush Badoni has been added to the squad, the team management is likely to go with a player who can contribute with both bat and ball.

“He [Badoni] has been playing, he has been performing, he has played some India A one-day matches and he has performed. Of course, it is the selectors who pick the team, but for any common man, when Washington is out, you cannot normally go with only five bowlers,” India’s batting coach Sitanshu Kotak explained.

“For example, in the last game, if we had only five bowlers and Washington got injured in the fourth or fifth over, then who would have bowled those overs? So every team would like to have a sixth bowling option. Sometimes, if it is an all-rounder like Washington, then it’s an equally good bowler; sometimes it might be more of a batter who can bowl,” he added.
