A fake news of India captain Suryakumar Yadav and Bangladesh’s stand-in skipper Jaker Ali not shaking hands at the toss in an Asia Cup 2025 match on Wednesday is going viral.

The misinformation spread like wildfire after a Pakistani journalist shared a video on social media claiming that Suryakumar Yadav and Jake Ali did not shake hands during their Asia Cup 2025 Super 4 match.

Did Jaker Ali avoid handshakes with Suryakumar?

The video shows both captains avoiding handshakes as Ali walks up to Ravi Shahstri to explain his decision to bowl first.

However, the video shows only a part of the story. The video does not show what happened after Ali spoke to Shastri. In reality, after the Bangladesh captain announced his team changes, he engaged in a fist bump with Suryakumar Yadav. This was followed by SKY taking his turn to speak. The captains did the fist bump, just a little later than where the video stopped.

The Indian players were also seen shaking hands with their Bangladeshi counterparts after the match was over. India won by 41 runs and qualified for the final.

The reason the video from the Pakistani journalists went so viral was that it came after India skipped handshakes with Pakistan in their last two Asia Cup 2025 matches. India chose not to shake hands as a mark of respect for victims of the Pahalgam terror attack in April and to honor their armed forces after Operation Sindoor.

Pakistan criticised the Indian stance and even made an official complaint to the International Cricket Council (ICC), but failed to achieve anything substantial.

India went on to win both games, embarrassing Pakistan on the field. As a result, Pakistan players were seen making 'insensitive' gestures during the Super 4 match.
