Yashasvi Jaiswal continued his fine run in the ongoing Test series against England, bringing up a third fifty-plus score in four matches during the fourth Test at Manchester’s Old Trafford on Wednesday. And in the process, he also went past the milestone of a 1,000 Test against England.

Which means that the left-handed opener, who plays for Mumbai and Rajasthan Royals in domestic cricket and the Indian Premier League respectively, has scored half of his Test runs against one team since making his debut in July 2023.

“He’s found a different way to bat in Test cricket, and for me that shows huge character, and the way he thinks about the game. And that for me, is a huge positive for Indian cricket,” Trott said on JioHotstar during the lunch interval on Wednesday.

Jaiswal and opening partner KL Rahul had batting through the morning session unscathed, taking India to 78/0 after 26 overs. The visitors, however, found themselves reduced to 149/3 at the end of the afternoon session, with Jaiswal departing shortly after Rahul’s dismissal off Chris Woakes’ bowling and England captain Ben Stokes getting rid of his Indian counterpart Shubman Gill shortly before tea.

India currently are trailing England 1-2 in the five-match series, having suffered defeats at Headingley (five wickets) and Lord’s (22 runs) along with a 336-run series-leveling victory at Edgbaston.

For them to win their first Test series in England in 18 years, they will have to register a maiden victory at Old Trafford.
