India vs England Live Score: Siraj nearly gets rid of Brook in his fifth over!

Mohammed Siraj convinces Shubman Gill to opt for a review after an unsuccessful LBW appeal against Harry Brook, and it turns out to be a fairly good review on India’s part, with the ball found to be clipping the top of leg. The ball was quite close to Brook’s inside edge and might have created an impression of there being some contact from the umpire’s perspective.

Brook later gets a bat-pad deflection that lobs the ball between short leg and square leg. Siraj, however, also bowls a couple of front-foot no-balls, with the batter also charging down the track for a boundary later in the over. Drinks brought to the field at the end of the 10th over. Captain Shubman Gill’s still going strong, and is currently batting on 168 with all-rounder Washington Sundar – picked over Kuldeep Yadav for his batting skills – having opened his account with a single. Turned out to be a near-perfect session for the visitors, one where they scored 109 runs losing just one wicket.

Gill and Jadeja would have preferred to take the visitors into the 40-minute interval unscathed. Then again, they were starting to accelerate towards the end of the session, hoping to collect quick runs, and Jadeja perished as a result.

England vs India LIVE Score, 2nd Test Day 2: Carse taken to cleaners by Gill as the captain displays some stylish shots

This is what patient, solid batting can do to the bowlers. Carse has lost his rhythm so early on. Going full as Gill played the short-arm flick for a four, followed by a second consecutive boundary on off as he slices another fuller ball. A leg bye ends the over. India on top. IND 359/5 (96).

England vs India LIVE Score, 2nd Test Day 2: Indian Test cricket team captain Shubman Gill will aim for a big individual score as the visitors look to go past the 450-run mark on Day 2 of the second Test against England at Edgbaston, Birmingham, on Thursday. Despite being asked to bat first in tricky conditions and England, who are 1-0 ahead in the five-match series, bowlers performed much better than at Headingley. India did well to end Day 1 on 310/5 , giving themselves a good chance as they look to script a comeback.

Solid Gill, Jaiswal give India strong start

India’s solid start on the opening day of the first Test was led by captain Gill, who smashed 114 not out, his second consecutive hundred in as many Tests in the series since becoming the new Test skipper. Opener Yashasvi Jaiswal continued his good form with a solid 87 off just 107 balls, while Karun Nair scored 31 and Rishabh Pant made 25.

Ravindra Jadeja was on unbeaten 41 at Stumps, having stitched a partnership of 99 runs with Gill. Both the batters will be back on Thursday with an eye on extending their partnership to 200 runs.

Chris Woakes has been England’s best bowler so far, removing KL Rahul and Nitish Kumar Reddy. Brydon Carse, Ben Stokes and Shoaib Bashir also took a wicket each.

India still have Washington Sundar, Akash Deep, Mohammed Siraj and Prasidh Krishna to bat.
