England and Wales Cricket Board (ECB) on Tuesday announced their 15-member squad for the upcoming T20 World Cup that takes place in February-March in India and Sri Lanka. The board also named the squad for the white-ball series in Sri Lanka just prior to the World Cup.
Jofra Archer has been included in the squad for the World Cup even as the pacer remains currently injured. The right-arm quick was ruled out of the ongoing Ashes after the third match due to a side strain and is currently recovering from the same. He has not been selected for the ODIs and T20Is against Sri Lanka where Brydon Carse will cover for the pacer.
Josh Tongue has been called up for the first time in the format after his Player of the Match performance in the fourth Ashes Test at the Melbourne Cricket Ground where England ended their 18-match winless streak in Australia.
Wicket-keeper batters Jamie Smith and Jordan Cox miss out as Tom Banton has been preferred over the duo. Meanwhile, this will Harry Brook’s first World Cup as a captain.
Bring it on! 🔥

England tour of Sri Lanka and T20 World Cup match-ups
To prepare for the World Cup, England will play three ODIs followed by the same number of T20Is in Sri Lanka, which is a co-host for the showpiece tournament. The Harry Brook-led side plays the ODIs in Colombo from January 22-27 and then the T20I series in Kandy finishes just days before the World Cup which kicks off February 7.
England, the semifinalists in the last T20 World Cup, are placed in Group C alongside West Indies, Bangladesh, Nepal and debutants Italy. The Three Lions open their World Cup campaign on the second day of the tournament against Nepal before taking on West Indies on February 11. Both their first two games take place at the Wankhede Stadium in Mumbai and after that they play their last two games — against Bangladesh on February 14 and against Italy on February 17 — at the Eden Gardens in Kolkata.
