Two senior Karnataka State Cricket Association (KSCA) officials have resigned from their posts in the aftermath of the stampede at the M Chinnaswamy Stadium that left 11 dead and up to 75 injured.
According to ESPNCricinfo, KSCA secretary A Shankar and treasurer ES Jairam have resigned from their roles citing “moral responsibility” for the tragic incident that took place at the iconic venue on Wednesday while Royal Challengers Bengaluru were celebrating their maiden Indian Premier League title.
“Due to the unforeseen and unfortunate events that have unfolded in the last two days, and though our role was very limited, but owing moral responsibility, we wish to state that last night we have tendered our resignation to our respective posts as secretary and treasurer of the KSCA,” Shankar and Jairam wrote to the KSCA president Raghuram Bhat late on Friday.
Resignations come a day after Bengaluru police files FIR
Their resignations come a day after Bengaluru Police filed a First Information Report (FIR) in which it had named Royal Challengers Bengaluru as the first accused, with event management company DNA Entertainment and the KSCA also finding mention in the same.
This was following a directive from Karnataka Chief Minister Siddaramaiah in which he ordered the city’s police to make arrests against representatives from the three aforementioned parties, after suspending Commissioner B Dayananda and several other top officers belonging to Bengaluru Police.
RCB marketing and revenue head Nikhil Sosale was arrested at the Kempegowda International Airport in the early hours of Friday, with three DNA Entertainment executives also detained for questioning. Senior KSCA officials, however, were absconding with police unable to find them at their residences.

Sosale had later moved the Karnataka High Court describing his arrest as arbitrary and illegal. However, while Sosale’s request for interim relief was turned down, Karnataka HC granted interim conditional relief to the KSCA officials so long as they co-operated with the ongoing investigation and did not leave the court’s jurisdiction.
