In a massive development following the tragic stampede during Royal Challengers Bengaluru’s (RCB) maiden IPL victory celebrations , the Bengaluru Police have filed an FIR naming the RCB franchise as accused number 1 in the case. The event, held on 4 June at the M. Chinnaswamy Stadium, led to the deaths of 11 people and left 33 injured after a massive crowd went out of control.

FIR blames RCB for stampede tragedy

According to the FIR accessed by News18, DNA Entertainment, the event management company, has been listed as accused number 2, and a top official from the Karnataka State Cricket Association (KSCA) has been named as accused number 3.

The complaint was reportedly filed by a police inspector from the Cubbon Park Police Station, who has alleged that RCB, KSCA, and DNA ignored police advice and went ahead with the celebrations despite warnings about crowd management and safety.

“KSCA, along with DNA and the RCB franchise, did not agree to the suggestion and insisted on going ahead with the evening celebration on 04.06.2025,” the FIR states.

Police say that the organisers failed to control the crowd or put a proper entry plan in place at Chinnaswamy Stadium. Even though the stadium could accommodate only around 30,000 to 35,000 people, reports suggest that over 2.5 lakh people had gathered there for the celebration.

“The stadium has a seating capacity of only 30,000 to 35,000 people, and the organisers—DNA, KSCA, the management board, and the RCB franchise—failed to implement a crowd management plan or issue clear instructions on entry protocols,” the FIR adds.

“The mismanagement by DNA, the KSCA management board, and the RCB franchise in handling public communication and entry protocols at the Chinnaswamy Stadium directly contributed to this tragedy.”
