Rishabh Pant has been ruled out of wicket-keeping duties in the ongoing fourth Test against England at Manchester due to the injury sustained to his right foot on the opening day of the match. The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) announced on Thursday that Dhruv Jurel will be keeping wickets for India in the Manchester Test, just as he did in the third Test at Lord’s.

However, Pant has rejoined the team on Day 2 and will be available for batting “as per team requirements,” BCCI said in a statement on X.

Pant suffered the injury on Day 1 of the Test match after inside-edging a delivery onto his right foot. Pant was attempting a reverse sweep against Chris Woakes but ended up injuring his right foot in the process. He was seen bleeding from his right foot as he was taken off the field on a buggy.
“Update: Rishabh Pant, who sustained an injury to his right foot on Day 1 of the Manchester Test, will not be performing wicket-keeping duties for the remainder of the match. Dhruv Jurel will assume the role of wicket-keeper,” BCCI said on X.

Meanwhile, media reports, before the start of play on Day 2, stated that Pant has fractured his toe which will force him to miss the fifth Test as he has been advised six weeks of rest. It also claimed that Pant is not in a position to bat but will take up the responsibility in the ongoing Test with the help of painkillers, if needed.
Ishan Kishan has reportedly been contacted by the BCCI to replace Pant in the squad for the fifth Test at The Oval. Kishan is currently in England, playing got Northamptonshire in the County Cricket.
