Two Australian women cricketers were allegedly stalked and molested by a motorcycle-born man in Indore, Madhya Pradesh on Thrusday amidst the ICC Women’s World Cup, the incident sending shockwaves throughout India and the wider cricketing community around the world and has led to a political blame-game.
The cricketers, who were walking towards a cafe from their hotel, had immediately sent an SOS notification to their security team, which led to a police complaint followed by a First Information Report under sections 74 and 78 of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita at the MIG Police Station later in the day.

A bystander had noted down the vehicle’s registration number which then led to the arrest of Aqeel Khan, who reportedly is a habitual offender and has prior criminal cases registered against him. Aqeel had tried to grab one of the players and inappropriately touched the other before fleeing the area.

Accused seen limping in police station after ‘intensive strategic operation’
Meanwhile, a video doing the rounds on social media shows the accused Khan limping at a police station with injuries on his left hand and right leg after he was taken into a two-day police remand. Rajesh Dandotiya, Additional Deputy Commissioner of Police (Crime Branch), later confirmed that they had conducted an intensive strategic operation that lasted six hours.

The alleged incident had taken place at 11 am on Thursday near the Radisson Blu hotel, where the Australian team had been staying for their matches in Indore. It had occurred a day after the defending world champions pulled off a remarkable six-wicket victory over England at the Holkar Stadium.
Australia later played South Africa in the same city two days after the incident, thrashing the Proteas by 7 wickets to sail into the semi-finals unbeaten.
