What happened in Kanpur?

After the incident, police launched a preliminary investigation. Officials confirmed that the Lamborghini was registered to prominent tobacco trader KK Mishra and that his son was allegedly driving it at the time of the incident.

According to preliminary information, the Delhi-registered Lamborghini was moving at a high speed when it first struck an autorickshaw.

Following the crash, the car reportedly sped up further, lost control near a turn, and then hit a parked motorcycle belonging to Vishal Tripathi, a resident of Arya Nagar, who was standing close by and speaking with someone at the time.

DCP (Central) Atul Kumar Srivastava said, “The accident occurred around 3.15 pm near Rev-3 Mall when the luxury car, reportedly driven by Shivam Mishra, the son of businessman KK Mishra, went out of control and ploughed into people standing along the roadside and several vehicles, triggering panic in the area,” reported NDTV.

“Vehicle has been seized, and further action will be taken based on the complaint. The injured in the case were provided primary treatment,” added DCP Srivastava. “We are also verifying whether the person driving the car actually suffers from seizures,” India Today quoted him as saying.

Investigators are reviewing CCTV footage from the area and eyewitness statements as part of the probe. “Bodyguards of Shivam, who were following him in another car, admitted him to a hospital as he had also sustained injuries,” SHO, Gwal Toli, Santosh Gaur, told TOI.

What do eyewitnesses say?

According to eyewitnesses, after the first impact, Lamborghini’s speed appeared to double, alarming those nearby.

They alleged that Lamborghini first hit an auto-rickshaw and then crashed into a parked Royal Enfield motorcycle, throwing its rider nearly 10 feet into the air. The car mounted the motorcycle’s front wheel, dragged it for some distance, then crashed into an electric pole before coming to a halt.

According to eyewitnesses, instead of stopping the car after the collision, the driver allegedly attempted to flee the scene. His bouncers tried to protect him, but they failed. They also misbehaved with the public. Angry onlookers smashed the Lamborghini Aventador’s windows and dragged Mishra out, reported a media outlet.

Police then reached the scene and controlled the crowd. They rescued Shivam Kumar Mishra, shifting him and others injured to a private hospital.

Residents and victims alleged that the police were treating him leniently because of his family’s influence. Some protesters also claimed that attempts were being made to push for a settlement and that there was a delay in registering a case.
