Urvashi Rautela recalls meeting veteran actor Dharmendra: "He told me 'Crush your ego and...'"

Dharmendra had an experience of over six decades in front of the camera. The moment the name appears or arrives or is even heard, we think of a solid man, the son of the soil, a man with fists of iron and heart of gold. And someone with a tough exterior.

But given  the actor and his relentless spirit to contribute to Hindi cinema, he was the most vulnerable of the artists who blew the celluloid with his spectacularly vociferous and versatile performances. Dharmendra was more than just An Action Hero.

STORY CONTINUES BELOW THIS AD

Actress Urvashi Rautela spoke about meeting the actor and what he told her:

“Urvashi beta, yeh jo ego naam ki cheez hoti hai, isko aap pair ke neeche rakhein aur usko kuchal dein… Ego, toh ego naam ki jo cheez hoti hai.”

Those words, simple yet piercing, echoed in her mind long after the cameras stopped rolling.

For most, it might sound like casual advice. But for a newcomer standing before a titan of Indian cinema, it became a defining moment.

The rise and rise of  Dharmendra

The actor made his debut with the film Dil Bhi Tera Hum Bhi Tere. And for that, he was paid Rs 51 only. As years passed by, the He-Man of Hindi cinema went on to become one of the most blazing and bankable stars in the country and gradually ended up creating an empire worth Rs 450 crore as per reports.

The actor was paid a whooping Rs 5 crore for Karan Johar’s  _Rocky Aur Rani Kii Prem Kahaani._

Dharmendra owned a sprawling farmhouse in Lonavala that was spread across 100 acre and also had properties worth Rs 17 crore in Maharashtra.

No state honour for   Dharmendra ?

The actor breathed his last on November 24 at 89. But despite a legacy that spanned for more than six glorious decades, he was not cremated with state honours, unlike Manoj Kumar, who passed away earlier this year in April.
