Rajkumar Hirani’s directorial debut Munna Bhai M.B.B.S. became an instant classic upon release in 2003 and Sanjay Dutt became one of the of the most lovable goons of Hindi cinema. It’s no news that Shah Rukh Khan was Hirani’s first choice but things couldn’t happen the way he planned due to Khan’s back injury. In an interview with Bollywood Hungama, Khurshed Lawyer, who played the role of Swami in the film, revealed and recalled how the comedy got delayed for 10 months due to Khan’s back issues. He added, “Eventually, things moved with Sanjay Dutt . In my personal opinion, Munna Bhai wouldn’t have been Munna Bhai without Sanjay Dutt and Dunki wouldn’t have been Dunki without Shah Rukh Khan. They both were meant to do their respective characters. Speaking on the same lines, SRK said that his films’ performance at the box office is a reiteration of the fact that he should continue to act.
