Music composer Palash Muchhal files Rs 10 crore defamation lawsuit against Vidnyan Mane after cheating accusation

Music composer and singer Palash Muchhal has initiated legal action by filing a Rs.10 crore defamation lawsuit against Marathi actor-producer Vidnyan Mane, responding to a series of serious allegations made against him including claims of cheating, financial fraud and personal misconduct.

The defamation notice was issued through Muchhal’s lawyer, Shreyansh Mithare, and sent to Mane, who recently made public accusations that have drawn significant attention on social media and in the press. Muchhal has described the claims as “false, outrageous and highly defamatory accusations made with the deliberate intent to malign my reputation and character.”

What triggered the lawsuit

The legal move comes in the wake of several allegations levelled by Mane, who claimed that Muchhal had cheated him of Rs. 40 lakh in connection with an unreleased film project and also made serious personal allegations involving Muchhal’s relationship with Indian cricketer Smriti Mandhana. Mane’s account included claims that he was “caught red-handed with another woman in bed” during wedding-related celebrations, which he said contributed to the cancellation of Muchhal’s planned marriage to Mandhana.

Mane also lodged a complaint with the police in Sangli, Maharashtra, alleging financial misconduct tied to an investment in a film production, where he said he had been promised profits and even a role in the project that ultimately did not materialise. As of now, a formal First Information Report (FIR) in that matter has not been registered, and the police are conducting a preliminary enquiry.

Muchhal denies all accusations

Muchhal has categorically denied every charge brought by Mane. In public statements shared on social media, he characterised the allegations as baseless and malicious, asserting that they were intended to harm his personal and professional reputation. He reiterated his intention to address the matter through appropriate legal channels only.

His legal team has also questioned the evidence behind the claims, pointing out that no substantiated proof, such as bank transfers or official documentation, has been offered to support Mane’s versions of events.

Prior allegations and public reaction

The controversy has unfolded against the backdrop of significant public scrutiny for Muchhal following the postponement and eventual cancellation of his high-profile wedding to Mandhana in late 2025. After the split, online speculation and unverified rumours circulated widely, prompting Muchhal to address aspects of the situation publicly and refute various claims as untrue.

While a small number of individuals online have continued to circulate unconfirmed narratives around Muchhal’s personal life and conduct, legal observers note that only documented and verifiable evidence presented in a court of law can substantiate such allegations.

The Rs. 10 crore defamation suit now awaits processing through civil courts. Mane may be required to respond to the legal notice, and the matter could advance through formal hearings where evidence on both sides may be examined.
