'The Dirty Picture' sequel on the cards? Director Milan Luthria spills the beans

It is becoming a common trend in Bollywood these days to bank on sequels of blockbuster hits. For some time now, the reports of the second installment to Silk Smitha’’s biographical musical drama, The Dirty Picture have been doing rounds, starring Vidya Balan as the siren. The reports suggested that Kriti Sanon and Taapsee Pannu are in talks for the role of protagonist in the sequel. Now, the director of The Dirty Picture, Milan Luthria has finally addressed these speculations during a recent interaction with India Today. Here is what he had to say.

Milan Luthria reacts to The Dirty Picture 2 speculations

Milan Luthria revealed that he has absolutely no wish to make the sequel of The Dirty Picture. The filmmaker was quoted as saying, “No, not from me, I have given what I had to.” He added that while there has been a lot of buzz regarding the sequel, he will not be revisiting the Vidya Balan starrer again. The director added that The Dirty Picture is an extremely special film that took place at a very special time, with a special actor, producer and writer. He further disclosed that this movie is now a part of who he is. Milan Luthria also said that according to him, they cannot improve on this film.

All About The Dirty Picture

The Dirty Picture features Vidya Balan, Naseeruddin Shah, Emraan Hashmi and Tushar Kapoor in crucial roles, with Anju Mahendru, Neha Bam, Arya Banerjee,  Rajesh Sharma, Imran Hasnee, Mangal Kenkre, Vikas Shrivastav, Mohit Sinha, Shivani Tanksale and  Lavin Gothi as secondary cast.

Produced by Balaji Motion Pictures, The Dirty Picture reached the big screens on 2 December, 2011.  The film was a cinematic adaptation of the life of the late actress Silk Smitha. The project managed to garner a total of more than Rs 100 crore during its tenure.

While Sandeep Shirodkar rendered the score for the movie, Vishal–Shekhar provided the songs for the drama.

What Vidya Balan is up to?

In the meantime, Vidya Balan last graced the screens with the suspense thriller, Neeyat. She was seen essaying the role of a CBI officer. The actress’ character is on a mission to uncover the truth.
