Sonakshi Sinha on her second double role in Zee5's horror-comedy 'Kakuda' after Netflix's 'Heeramandi': 'When I saw it...'

Back in the 90s, Rahul Roy’s Junoon created curiosity among the cinegoers. Still, unfortunately, the genre of folklore didn’t get explored until the arrival of recent movies like Stree, Bhediya and Munjya which garnered love from the audience and box office.

Director Aditya Sarpotdar, who is known for making Zombivli and Munjya, has come up with another folklore story in the form of  _Kakuda_ . One of the leads Sonakshi Sinha spoke about her second double role after Netflix’s ‘Heeramandi’ and Saqib Saleem opened up about his character and the hunch he was bestowed with.

Sinha, about her double role, said, “When we shot it, Aditya said, ’let me show you what I’ve put together and how it’s looking.’ So when I saw it, I was like, wow. What’s better than one Sona, 2. It was quite nice, actually. It was fun. It was a new experience for me, and I really enjoyed.

Saqib on his hunch

I feel like point it was a character in itself. So I think, but what it did was that, in fact, that was the part. That was the thing in the script for my character that I really enjoyed. I thought, exciting. So it wasn’t a burden as such. It was more of a thing that just got me interested in doing the film.

On the challenges of a horror-comedy

It’s a challenge for an actor if the material given to him is not good or the person, responsible for the film doesn’t know what he’s doing or she’s doing. But when I read the material, I was very, very happy with the material. And then I met Aditya. I had known Aditya from before, but never in a working capacity. We were once working on respective films from the same office, so we would bump into each other.

But when I met him and the clarity of thought he had about the film, about my character, how he’s seeing it, I was just very excited. I’m like, okay, My job’s done. Here’s a guy who’s done his bit of research. He’s given me material that’s got banger lines and a great setup. So let’s just get on with it and do it.

Sonakshi on humor in heartland

Depends on the story, I feel, and depends of the, on the premise and the genre of which the the project is being made. If the script, requires it, it’s great that it’s there. If if it doesn’t, it doesn’t need to be there. I feel. I think and there’s enough, content being created.

There’s enough, stories being told of many different, genres, which is what I love. I mean, it’s a great time for writers, for directors, for makers, for actors, to explore so many different things. And that’s what I love about being an actor in this particular time.

On her prep

Honestly, I was doing sort of the heavier role, so to speak, and this came as a welcome break where I’m getting to play a girl next door. And a character which is completely different from her. So for me, it was like playing 2 people in it was actually me playing 2 people. So I have to just keep that little bit of a contrast between the 2. And, I had fun doing it.

So, preparation not so much, but, yes, we had to learn the dialect, that was required. The accent that we were speaking in in the film. We had a dialect coach. All of us kind of read the, script in that accent a few times.
