Veteran Malayalam filmmaker KG George, who delivered classics like Lekhayude Maranam Oru Flashback, Adaminte Vaariyellu, Panchavadi Palam, Irakal, Mela and Mattoral, passed away at 77. He breathed his last on 24 September.
Many influential personalities and celebs like Mammootty, Mohanlal, Sangeeth Sivan, Prithviraj Sukumaran and others paid tribute to George on social media.
While the _Driving Licence_ star wrote, “Rest in Peace Sir! #KGGeorge One of the finest film makers of the country bids adieu!” Mohanlal’s translated caption rough reads, “Beloved KG George sir was a unique talent who brought a newness to Malayalam cinema and led the fans to the world of classics. He contributed few of the best Malayalam films of all time. Tributes to that irreplaceable genius.”
Mammootty, who collaborated with KG George for films like Mela, Yavanika, Lekhayude Maranam Oru Flashback, Adaminte Vaariyellu, and Mattoral, wrote, “Another person who was close to my heart says goodbye, Regards George sir.”

George is a highly respected director in the Malayalam film industry but has been suffering from a stroke for the past few years. He was resting at the Kakkanad old age home.
While George has directed only around 20 movies, he was a director who had broken the concept of commercial and art movies and had given a message in each of his movies.
He has brought out a revolution in Malayalam film industry and was a director who was not afraid to speak the truth and touched upon subjects including sex, politics, corruption and crime.
