The portrayal of Pakistani cop Chaudhry Aslam in Dhurandhar has drawn attention across borders, and now, his wife Naureen Aslam has weighed in on Sanjay Dutt’s performance.
Reacting to the film, Naureen praised Dutt’s screen presence, saying that in certain moments, the actor uncannily resembled her late husband. She noted that when he stood near a car and lifted his gaze, “for a moment it felt like Aslam himself.”
Praise for Performance, But Not Without Reservations
While she appreciated the casting and performance, Naureen also made it clear that the film doesn’t fully capture the depth of her husband’s personality in a podcast with AajTak Radio.
She pointed out that several scenes, especially those depicting extreme violence or harm to innocents, did not align with the real-life character of Aslam, who was known for his principles and dedication. According to her, the portrayal simplifies a far more complex life, leaving out key nuances of his journey and struggles.
“They Could Have Spoken to Me”
Naureen also expressed disappointment that the filmmakers did not consult her or others closely associated with Chaudhry Aslam while developing the character.
She said, “If they were making a film, they could have at least called me, the police, or journalists to understand both his positive and negative sides. He fulfilled tasks that the rest of the police never could.”
She suggested that speaking to family members, journalists, or police officials could have helped present a more balanced and authentic narrative, highlighting both his strengths and challenges.
Games
View AllShe further remarked that certain elements, including the depiction of Karachi’s Lyari area, appeared exaggerated for cinematic effect.
Interestingly, Naureen did not object to the film’s use of strong language. She acknowledged that such dialogue reflects the reality of police environments and may be appropriate within the context of the story.
A Film That Continues to Spark Debate
Directed by Aditya Dhar and headlined by Ranveer Singh, Dhurandhar: The Revenge has been both commercially successful and controversial since its release, drawing praise for performances while also facing criticism over its depiction of real-life figures and violence.
Naureen Aslam’s response reflects that duality, appreciation for the craft, but concern over authenticity, adding another layer to the ongoing conversation around the film.
