 "Netflix’s ‘The Woman in Cabin 10’ Movie Review: Keira Knightley does justice to the adaptation of Ruth Ware’s novel")
As we step into the weekend, one movie to watch out for is Netflix’s ‘The Woman in Cabin 10’. Not just for the crisp story, but mainly because of the way it keeps you engaged and immersed.
The story goes this way, on a lavish yacht for an assignment, a journalist sees a passenger thrown into the sea. But when no one believes her, she risks her life to uncover the truth and, in the process, not just one, but a lot of cats come out of the bag.
Based on Ruth Ware’s 2016 novel, the film follows a journalist named Laura played by Keira Knightley who is assigned to cover the inaugural voyage of a luxury yacht. But a luxury story takes a turn into a thriller for Laura (Keira Knightley) when she discovers that someone from the yacht was forcibly drowned in the middle of the sea. She is made to believe that she is having bad dreams.
Laura ( Keira Knightley) was told that the cabin next to her was always empty, but she isn’t convinced enough and carries on with her investigation and discovers that some traces of blond hair underneath the shower drain in the washroom. She keeps collecting evidence putting her own life in danger.
The passengers onboard make her believe that it is her present state of mind where she is struggling with insomnia and anxiety is what is leading her to believe that someone must have gotten murdered and thrown into the sea. Her ex-boyfriend who is also on board and is a photojournalist, refuses to believe her.
Laura also discovers while taking the interview of the yacht owner’s terminally ill wife, Anne Bullmer has been replaced by someone else who looks similar to her, but is a different person. Laura escapes from the yacht by jumping into the sea and she survives.
The Netflix film _‘The Woman in Cabin 10’_clearly shows how Laura is being gaslighted and made to believe that she doesn’t fit into the rich and classy group of people invited for the launch party. Sometimes she finds herself overdressed and sometimes she is underdressed. She arrives onboard in a pair of jeans and doesn’t know that she needs to remove her boots before boarding and later in the evening she wears a shiny golden dress for dinner.
The film’s run-time is just 85 minutes and is short, crisp and appealing. Most importantly, though ‘The Woman in Cabin 10’ is a one-time watch, it deserves every bit of your time.
