Netflix’s The Crown Season 6 Review: Doesn’t do justice to Princess Diana’s life

To start with, cutting Netflix’s The Crown Season 6  into two halves doesn’t make sense. I have been watching The Crown for a long time now. Somehow, this time I didn’t find it to be that engaging. But one thing that needs to be appreciated is that despite Britain being a monarchy, the makers of the show didn’t hesitate to show the inner intimacy between King Charles III and Queen Camilla when Charles was already married to Diana. This shows that it’s truly one of the oldest democracy where the power of the fourth estate cannot be crushed. But what I didn’t like was the kind of soft justification they were giving to Charles as to why things didn’t work out between him and Diana. Diana is definitely the queen of hearts and she will remain the people’s queen. But we cannot deny that injustice was done to her by the British Royal family and all of them were party to it. If Charles was so deeply in love with Camilla and continued with his relationship with her even after marriage, why did he marry Diana and ruined her life? [caption id=“attachment_13425412” align=“alignnone” width=“640”] A still from Netflix’s The Crown Season 6[/caption] Netflix’s The Crown kind of overlooked this bit of an extra-marital affair of Charles as something ‘okay’ and tried to show that after being separated from Diana, he was kind of liberated. Diana never tried to control him. It was she who went through the pain of her husband’s infidelity. _The Crown_ tried to show that he was a forward looking person, who had the courage to stand up against the queen and that he was popular with the young people of UK. Well, he had his ways of torturing Diana with no apparent scars. It was he who was solely responsible for the mental agony of Diana. Why Queen Elizabeth didn’t object is my question, it looked like the entire royal family was okay with this extra-marital relationship as long the real picture of the family didn’t get exposed to the press. Diana then was a young mother of two kids. She was vulnerable and was handling this inner turmoil all by herself. Her story is the real one and that should have been shown in details as to how she dealt with this disturbing relationship and the constant putting down and torture by Charles. The Crown shows how Queen Elizabeth had the audacity to say to Diana, “You have finally succeeded in turning the house upside down.” How insensitive was that I ask and what kind of blame game is this? Looks like Queen Elizabeth was good at putting all the blame on Diana to save her own reputation. What a classic politician I must say she was. Hats off to the then press. It will make your blood boil to see what Diana went through. I wanted to see more of that and not what Charles had to say and how he justified his relationship with Camilla.  Rating: 3 out of 5
