Netflix’s Nadaaniyan, which marked the Bollywood debut of Saif Ali Khan’s son Ibrahim Ali Khan and also featured Khushi Kapoor in a lead role, garnered severe backlash from audiences for its storyline and performances.
Now, actress Zareen Khan, who starred in films like Veer and Hate Story 3, among others, called Nadaaniyan ‘frivolous’.
“When we speak about Ibrahim’s Nadaaniyan. I’m sorry, but it feels like a very frivolous film. Kya hi acting kar loge tum usme (What acting skills can you show in that film?). I have not seen his second film Sarzameen. It looks like an intense film and you are saying that he is a little better in that film. Maybe he needs a director who can guide him because I have heard that about a lot of actors, for example, Deepika, she was also very unpolished when she came to the industry, but Sanjay Leela Bhansali polished her,” Zareen told Faridoon Shahryar on his YouTube channel.
“I debuted with the biggest superstar (Salman Khan) of the country but all the criticism that I faced that time, it was so difficult for me to get work ahead. I didn’t have a Karan Johar to back me up, irrespective (of the audience’s opinion) making films for me. I think that matters a lot. If you’re getting back-to-back films, even though you are not up to the mark, then why will they work on themselves? They will get comfortable,” she added.
Nadaaniyan, which was directed by Shauna Gautam, also featured Mahima Chaudhry, Suniel Shetty, Dia Mirza, and Jugal Hansraj in key roles. It was produced by Karan Johar, Apoorva Mehta and Somen Mishra under the banner of Dharmatic Entertainment.
