Veteran TV and Bollywood actor Shekhar Suman, who is basking in the success of Sanjay Leela Bhansali’s latest web series Heeramandi: The Diamond Bazaar, opened up about his lowest phase in personal life after the demise of his son Aayush, who passed away at the age 11.
“One day it was raining heavily and Aayush was ill. Knowing my child’s health condition, the director asked me to come for a two-to-three-hour shoot, which I declined. He added, ‘Please, it will be a tremendous loss for me’, and I agreed. When I was leaving, Aayush grabbed my hand and said, ‘Papa, don’t leave today, please. I let go of his hand and promised him I’d be back soon,” said Shekhar while talking to Connect FM Canada.
The actor said all idols were taken out, temple of his home was shut and his belief in religion was lost when his son died. “All of the idols were taken away and dumped outside. The temple was closed. I declared that I would never return to the God who had caused me so much anguish, damaged me so much, and taken the life of a lovely, innocent kid,” added the actor.
Aayush passed away at the age of 11 due to a rare disease called Endomyocardial fibrosis (EMF).
In an exclusive interview with Firstpost, Shekhar spoke about working with son Adhyayan and said, “I’m extremely, extremely proud of Adhyayan and I don’t consider it his second innings. I think he’s still with the first innings, there are ups and downs in your career and anyone’s career. But he didn’t sort of get the right opportunity. So I would just say he was waiting in the wings for the right things to happen. It’s not that a career got stalled and then now he’s restarting, it’s nothing like that. He was just waiting for the right film, for the right venture to happen. And it has. And I’ve seen him work so hard and wait so patiently and he never gave up hope. He had faith in himself, he believed in God and the doors have finally opened, so I’m extremely, extremely proud of him.”
