Netflix pulls the plug on third Marvel show Daredevil, after axing Iron Fist and Luke Cage

After the axing of Daredevil, the only two shows from the Marvel roster that continue to remain on Netflix are The Punisher and Jessica Jones.

Netflix has cancelled Daredevil, one of the first Marvel shows to have premiered on the platform, after three seasons, reported Variety. This is the third Marvel series that the streaming giant has pulled the plug on, following Iron Fist and Luke Cage .

Netflix confirmed the news in a statement, “We’re thankful to our partners at Marvel, showrunner Erik Oleson, the show’s writers, stellar crew and incredible cast including Charlie Cox as Daredevil himself, and we’re grateful to the fans who have supported the show over the years.”

However, the statement said that while there will not be any more new episodes on the platform, the three existing seasons will remain on the service. Further, it also said that the character of Daredevil will live on to feature in future projects for Marvel.

As per The Hollywood Reporter , the decision comes two weeks after showrunner Erik Oleson pitched season four of Daredevil to Netflix and Marvel executives. The third season of Daredevil premiered on 19 October.

As for now, only two of the Marvel shows remain on the platform — Jessica Jones and The Punisher.

The move comes at the heels of the launch of Disney’s video streaming service. According to an earlier report , Loki, Scarlet Witch and other popular Marvel Comics characters are all set to get standalone TV shows that will air on Disney+.
