Cast: Pankaj Tripathi, Raja Rameshkumar Sevak, Piyush Mishra, Daya Shankar Pandey, Pramod Pathak, Payal Nair, Ekta Kaul, Haresh Khatri and others Director: Ravi Jadhav Language: Hindi Atal Bihari Vajpayee was one of the greatest Prime Ministers in the history of Indian politics. As Prime Minister, he took India to great heights and showed that our country is not a ’third world’ country but one of the fastest growing economies. And that’s why when the announcement of his biopic surfaced on news channels, I was excited to see how the makers would show the inspiring and extraordinary journey of a beloved leader, a poet, a gentleman and a statesman. Two National-award winning personalities, Pankaj Tripathi and filmmaker Ravi Jadhav (known for Balgandharva, Natarang, Balak Palak and Timepass) collaborated for this biopic and while they created curiosity among cinegoers with trailer and songs, do they managed to fulfil the expectations? Let’s find out… The movie traces the life of Atal Bihari Vajpayee right from joining RSS (Rashtriya Seva Sangh) to becoming the 10th Prime Minister of India. It highlights his struggles (in personal and professional life) and glorious achievements including the Kargil War with Pakistan and the Pokhran nuclear tests. Undoubtedly, Atal Bihari Vajpayee is one of the greatest politicians, India has ever seen and it is unfortunate that despite the minds of two geniuses coming together, the film failed to deliver good content. The major disappointment comes with a slow-paced screenplay, which fails to create any kind of impact on you as the audience. It lacks depth and at most times looks over-stretched. It seems that the filmmaker has failed to set the tone and we can’t expect that from a filmmaker like Ravi Jadhav. The major complaint for me was that I wanted to see the elaboration of Vajpayee’s achievements in the Pokhran Nuclear Test and Kargil Ear and his involvement in these historical events but unfortunately, it was just shown as a passing thing in the movie. Talking about the performances, Pankaj Tripathi tried hard to emulate Atal Bihari Vajpayee but somehow failed to recreate the character of this beloved personality. His command over the Hindi language is impeccable and we know that but it looked like the character of Atal didn’t come across naturally for him. Talking about the supporting cast, Raja Rameshkumar Sevak as LK Advani and Piyush Mishra as Atal’s father Krishna Bihari Vajpayee stood out with Daya Shankar Pandey, Pramod Pathak, Payal Nair, Ekta Kaul and Haresh Khatri portraying the characters perfectly. On the whole, Main Atal Hoon could have been a great film but unfortunately, it failed to give justice as the biopic of Atal Bihari Vajpayee. Main Atal Hoon is releasing in cinemas on 19th January
