The Supreme Court is pronouncing its verdict today on the number of petitions filed for the legalisation of same sex marriage. The date reserved for the verdict earlier was May 11. Filmmaker Onir and actor Vir Das have tweeted about it and given their take ahead of the full verdict. The filmmaker, who dabbled with same-sex relationships in My Brother Nikhil and Pine Cone, shared a video and spoke about its importance: He wrote- “ The Supreme Court of India will deliver its verdict on #MarriageEquality this week . Hope that the weakness of the majority community to be better humans do not dictate the verdict to us being equal citizens.”

Vir Das replied to a fan who asked to keep same-sex marriages only for America. He wrote- " I promise you if two people of the same sex marry each other you have no reason to be worried. Your life will completely remain unaffected by #samesexmarriage and……probably sex….and marriage. Okay bro? Relax. Have a protein shake."

Back in April, filmmakers like Vivek Agnihotri and Hansal Mehta also said why it’s not wrong to legalise same sex marriages in the country. ‘The Vaccine War’ director had tweeted- “NO. Same sex marriage is not an ‘urban elitist’ concept. It’s a human need. Maybe some sarkari (government) elites drafted it, who have never travelled in small towns and villages. Or Mumbai locals. First, same sex marriage is not a concept. It’s a need. It’s a right. And in a progressive, liberal and inclusive civilisation like Bharat, same sex marriage should be normal, not a crime.” Hansal Mehta had written- “Come on Supreme Court! Pave the path. Legalise same sex marriages.” What the verdict about the legalisation says The Supreme Court of India has granted equal rights to same-sex couples without legalising marriage. CJI Chandrachud has said that a transgender man can marry a woman or vice-versa. However, he said the directions do not result in the creation of an institution.
