In a career spanning more than two decades for Kareena Kapoor, the actress has been impressively known for her characters ‘Poo’ and ‘Geet’. Now, in an attempt to break away from the same, the Jaane Jaan star indulged in a conversation with her co-stars. Mystery thriller, Jaane Jaan, is currently streaming on Netflix and has garnered praise from all spheres. In a conversation with the OTT platform, the 43-year-old revealed how she often questions her husband Saif Ali Khan about the ‘other roles she has played on celluloid’.
Kareena Kapoor Khan on her famous roles as ‘Poo’ or ‘Geet’
Kareena Kapoor started her acting career in 2000 with J P Dutta’s film Refugee alongside debutant Abhishek Bachchan. Since then, many opportunities have come her way. The two characters she is most often associated with are ‘Poo’ from Kabhi Khushi Kabhie Gham and ‘Geet’ of _Jab We Met_. Looking at the current scenario, the actress often asks her husband, Saif Ali Khan, why can’t the audience remember her for her other roles.
Kareena Kapoor, who is currently enjoying her OTT debut with Sujoy Ghosh’s _Jaane Jaan_, was recently questioned by her co-actor Vijay Varma about the same. The Darlings star asked her about how she feels when from her ‘illustrious’ career, she is only recognised as Poo or Geet. On her part, Kareena Kapoor Khan replied that the two roles have restricted the audience’s perspective of her.
She further added that the ruling scenario has stopped the audience from knowing her versatility. However, it hasn’t dissuaded directors from seeing it. Sharing her work experiences with varied directors, Kareena added, “I still have worked with Vishal Bhardwaj, Govind Nihalani, Mani Ratnam, down to my last film in Laal Singh Chadha. In this film, I tried to prove and break away from this whole pop culture, which is so hot and tempting, the pout or whatever.”
The actress reiterated that despite trying to break free from the images of ‘Poo’ and ‘Geet’, she never succeeded. Adding an example from her film Chameli, which she did in 2004, the actress stated, “I have experimented with roles since I was 21. I did Chameli when I was 21. But people still want to return to Poo or Geet. Omkara happened in the middle of that. I won awards for it, and it was a role I nailed. But when you talk about Omkara, you only talk about Langda Tyagi (played by Saif Ali Khan), and you still refer back to Poo and Geet.”
Co-written and directed by Vishal Bhardwaj, the 2006 film Omkara, was a crime drama adapted from William Shakespeare’s Othello. Saif Ali Khan played Langda Tyagi while Ajay Devgn portrayed Othello’s character - Omkara.
What Saif Ali Khan thinks about this
According to Saif Ali Khan, “When people look at Kareena’s face, they just obviously kind of go back to she must be like that as a person. I don’t know why everyone thinks they know Poo and Geet means that’s Bebo,” Kareena Kapoor added.
