Soon after the announcement, Universal also announced that the release date of the film has been pushed by a week and will now open on 22 March, instead of 15 March. The move was made to build momentum after the SXSW premiere. Janet Piersen, Director of Film at SXSW, took to Twitter and share her excitement at Us getting selected as the opening film for SXSW film festival.
Starring Lupita Nyong'o, Winston Duke, Elisabeth Moss, Tim Heidecker, Yahya Abdul-Mateen II and Anna Diop, Us follows a family vacationing in Northern California, who are confronted by a group of doppelgangers.
The trailer was dropped on Christmas, which created a considerable buzz about the highly anticipated thriller.
Peele, who has penned the script as well, is producing Us under his banner Monkeypaw Productions, along with Sean McKittrick and Jason Blum.
