On shooting for Kidnap

Based on an Instagram post, Imran Khan shared that he was close to wrapping up the shoot for Jaane Tu… Ya Jaane Na when he was called to audition for Kidnap. Director Sanjay Gadhvi had already directed the first two Dhoom films. Imran also played antagonist for actor Sanjay Dutt, which he called ‘a huge opportunity!’ For Kabir and Sonia, the lead characters in Kidnap, several screen tests were conducted before signing Minissha Lamba for the role of the latter.

On not having a star value

At that time, Jaane Tu… Ya Jaane Na had not yet been released and according to Imran Khan, he was not considered to possess any star value. For this very reason, ’the producers were not very enthusiastic about casting him’. He further added, “I got the part thanks to dual support from the director and writer Shibani Bathija, for which I am grateful to this day.”

Imran went on to add how he was ‘only allowed to read the scenes I was in’. Not just this, he added that he was given printouts of scenes only a day or two before they were scheduled to be shot’.

On working opposite Minissha Lamba

Talking about an incident from 2007 in Mauritius, when he still used a Nokia phone, he admitted not having many pictures from the shoot. On working with his Kidnap co-star, he added, “She was lovely to work with; intelligent, articulate, and self-assured.”
