Great Grand Masti — starring Vivek Oberoi, Riteish Deshmukh and Aftab Shivdasani — is out in theatres today (15 July).

You may have heard this called a "sex comedy".

What it is, is a real education about the effects of sexual deprivation.

We kid you not.

The story begins with three men, all troubled to varying degrees by their inability to have sex with their wives.

Riteish's problem is a superstitious mother-in-law, who when she isn't trying to communicate with her dead husband, is holding pujas and havans, and preventing her daughter from having conjugal relations with her very much alive spouse.

Aftab, on the other hand, is troubled by an immature sister-in-law, who pops up whenever he and his missus are in the mood.

As for Vivek, his issue is the most unusual — his wife has a twin brother, who in true Hindi film tradition, feels everything that she goes through. We hope you don't want us to elaborate on that.

Frustrated by the lack of action in their marital beds, the men decide to take a vacation at Riteish's ancestral home — it is in a place called Doodhwadi (because this is Great Grand Masti y'all!).

There they meet a beauteous lass called Ragini (Urvashi Rautela), who they promptly fall for and attempt (individually) to seduce.

Unbeknownst to them, Ragini is actually a ghost — a princess who dies a virgin because of an overprotective father — and she wants to fulfill her long-suppressed desires.

Soon enough, the men find out that the object of their carnal affections is not human, "comedy" (we're using that term very, very loosely here) of errors ensues and then they all bumble on towards the end. Oh wait, there's a painful and pointless cameo by Shreyas Talpade somewhere in the middle of all that.

That, in a nutshell, is the story.

Will you laugh while watching Great Grand Masti? Certainly, though it may be more out of pity than humour.

One knows to expect a certain kind of humour from the Masti films, but this one takes the jokes even lower than its previous iterations: The gags are tasteless, homosexuals are liberally made fun of, and gratuitous shots of the female bosom are stuffed throughout the run-time. Watching straight porn might make for a better experience than this.

To put it in the film's own terminology, this isn't a comedy about f***ing, it's merely a farce that's f***ed up.
