Ghost movie review: Shiva Rajkumar rules the screen with his swag in MG Srinivas' heist action-thriller

In recent times, we have seen the concept of the cinematic universe gripping the nation. After Rohit Shetty Cop Universe, YRF Spy Universe and Lokesh Kanagaraj Cinematic Universe, filmmaker MG Srinivas’ has now come up with his own universe and started it with Shiva Rajkumar’s Ghost.

While the heist action-thriller has larger-than-life treatment and massy appeal, does it manage to strike a chord with the audience? Let’s find out…

After a long struggle, former CBI chief Vaman along with ACP finally manages to convince the state government to pass the bill for the privatisation of a jail. But there is a strong reason behind this as there is 1000 kg of gold biscuits have been buried in a particular tower of the jail.

While everything seems to be going smoothly at the bhoomi poojan of the jail, suddenly a number of prisoners explode bombs and take a huge number of other prisoners as hostages in one of the towers. Shiva Rajkumar aka Big Daddy is the leader of these prisoners, who makes a whistle-worthy entry in the jail with a thumping BGM.

Now, Big Daddy has a negotiation with a top cop, who is handling this case. And in between, we see some solid twists and turns, high-octane action-packed sequences and the background story of the lead character. While the execution of the heist sequences is shot interestingly, it somehow gives a Deja Vu feeling from _Dhoom 2_. On the other hand, the overall theme reminds me of the KGF franchise.

While MG Srinivas has handled some of the sequences with aplomb, somewhere the narrative lost its charm due to lack of pace. But undoubtedly, he made sure to give the audience a big-screen visual treat.

Talking about the performances, Shiva Rajkumar rules the screen with his swag, which he carries effortlessly. Jayaram is in top-notch form and delivers a superb portrayal. Prashant Narayanan is good as Vaman but honestly, an actor of this calibre deserves much more screen time and a meatier role. Anupam Kher manages to establish his presence despite having a cameo for a brief time.

On the whole, Ghost is a one-time popcorn entertainer and a treat for Shiva Rajkumar fans.
