'When I refused, the co-producer...': Esha Gupta on being subjected to casting couch twice

Actress Esha Gupta, who made her acting debut with Jannat 2, recently opened up about facing the casting couch twice in the industry. The former Femina Miss India International 2007 has now disclosed the horrific incidents regarding the same. In an interview with Spotboye, the 37-year-old explained how a filmmaker propositioned her for sexual favours in exchange for professional opportunities. Not just this, the actress who also represented India at the Miss International pageant, emphasised that “two individuals subjected me to this ordeal.”

Subject to casting couch

While several Bollywood actresses have allegedly been subjected to casting couches in the industry, Esha Gupta is the latest to accept it. Sharing her personal experience, she discussed how a filmmaker propositioned her for sexual favours in exchange for professional opportunities. On her part, the actress disclosed that she had faced the casting couch not just once but twice, stating, “Two individuals subjected me to this ordeal.”

Narrating the gruesome event, she further shared that the first incident unfolded during a film’s shooting but she refused it. Talking about the incident, the Jannat 2 actress said the film was half completed. When she resisted, the co-producer told the makers he didn’t want the actress in the film. She added that they even questioned her presence on the set. After this, some filmmakers even refused to cast her in movies.

Shedding further light on the event, the actress added that she heard people saying about her that “since I won’t do anything then what is the point of taking me in the film?”

Second incident

As part of the same interview, Esha Gupta revealed that she was on an outdoor film shoot when the same thing happened again. Illustrating the tortuous event, she continued, “Two people laid the trap of casting couch. I understood but I still did the film because it was a small move from their side. He thought I would fall into his trap during an outdoor shoot. I was also smart, I said I would not go to sleep alone. I called my makeup artist to sleep in my room.”

The actress also expressed anger saying ‘such people cannot do these things with the star kids as their parents would kill them’. Talking about their predatory acts, the actress reiterated that “they think that if we need work we can get anything done.”

Work Front

On the professional front, Esha Gupta was last seen in Prakash Jha’s Aashram 3 featuring Bobby Deol in the lead role. Before that, she appeared in One Day: Justice Delivered. The actress will next be seen in Desi Magic and Hera Pheri 3.

The Bollywood diva made her acting debut with Jannat 2 and won the Best Female Debut Award at Filmfare Awards. The actress has also worked in films like Raaz 3D, Rustom, Baadshaho, Chakravyuh among others.
