Legendary actor Dharmendra passed away at 89 on November 24. Despite a contribution of more than six decades in Hindi cinema, he was not cremated with state honours, a decision that came from the Deol family. And in an interview back in the day, the actor’s wife Hema Malini talked about their marriage.

Dharmendra and   Hema Malini  had been married for 44 years. They tied the knot in the year 1980 and acted in multiple films in their illustrious careers like Sholay, Seeta Aur Geeta, Charas, Dream Girl, Razia Sultan, The Burning Train, Krodhi. In a throwback interview with Stardust, Malini spoke about Dharmendra, how they fight with each other, and her marriage with the star.

What  Hema Malini  said

She revealed, “We start each day with a fight. We are fighting all the time. It is he who normally gives in, and then we make up. Early in the morning, when he comes to see me, he asks, ‘Why do you have a long face today, and why are you spoiling my mood early in the morning?’ As if I could help it, I was born with a face like this. Then we fight.” She then spoke about their marriage and said, “I will never let anyone break this. From my side, at least, it is forever.”

The legendary star once revealed, “This allegation is totally incorrect. I am not the kind of man who will change his religion to suit his interests.”

SRK remembers the veteran star

Shah Rukh Khan  expressed grief over the demise of legendary actor Dharmendra, remembering him as a “father figure” and a guiding force in the industry.

Taking to X, SRK wrote, “Rest in Peace Dharam ji. You were nothing short of a father figure to me… thank u for showering me with blessings and love the way you did. An inconsolable and irreplaceable loss to not just his family, but to cinema and film lovers world over. You are immortal… and your soul will live through your films and your beautiful family forever. Love you always.”
