Half Girlfriend to boast of longest Hindi film song; 18-minute sequence to be sung by Arijit Singh
The 18-minute long song of Half Girlfriend will beat the record of a 13-minute long song from Prem Ratan Dhan Payo.
Mohit Suri's upcoming romantic comedy Half Girlfriend is slated to release months later but its promotion has already kick-started. Co-producer Chetan Bhagat, who has written the book it is based on, is sharing interesting trivia about the film on Twitter.
One of the recent trivia that has surfaced, besides what Bhagat has shared, is the fact that it has the longest Hindi film song ever. DNA reports that the song has broken the record of the 13-minute long song from Sooraj Barjataya's 2015 family drama Prem Ratan Dhan Payo as the song in Half Girlfriend is 18 minutes long!
Zoom reports that Suri approached music composer Mithoon and lyricist Manoj Muntashir to produce the song. Muntasir was spotted by Suri years ago while he was narrating some of his early poems at a concert. Thereafter, Muntasir also worded the song 'Galiyan' from Suri's 2014 revenge drama Ek Villain. The rest of the album of Half Girlfriend is composed by Rishi Rich and Tanishk Bagchi, along with Mithoon.
Unlike that song, the record-breaking number will be crooned by Arijit Singh. It will be played at a crucial juncture during the film. However, it is not known whether the entire song will be retained in the film or will be chopped off because of the run time.
These days, makers are trying their best to limit the length of the film to around 2 hours. Even Sajid Nadiadwala and Vishal Bhardwaj took a call to cut down the length of their upcoming war drama Rangoon by 40 minutes, as reported by Deccan Chronicle.
Half Girlfriend stars Arjun Kapoor, Shraddha Kapoor, Rhea Chakraborty and Seema Biswas. It is co-produced by Bhagat, Suri and Ekta and Shobha Kapoor's Balaji Motion Pictures. It is based on Bhagat's bestselling young romance novel of the same name that released in 2014. The film is slated to release on 19 May.
