Birthday Special: Simi Garewal reveals why she couldn't renew her talk show 'Rendezvous with Simi Garewal'

One of the most celebrated actresses of her time, Simi Garewal has turned 75 today, 17 October. Aside from her movies such as Mera Naam Joker, Karz and Andaz, the veteran diva also received a lot of fame for her popular chat show, Rendezvous with Simi Garewal. In addition to this, she is also credited with hosting another talk show, India’s Most Desirable. Commemorating Simi Garewal’s 75th birthday, let us revisit an old interview with the actress where she revealed the reason for not reviving either of the two shows. Why Simi Garewal did not renew Rendezvous with Simi Garewal? During a conversation with Filmfare, Simi Garewal shared that given that they enjoy a niche, English channels have minuscule budgets. She said, “Slowly but steadily, English is becoming a dinosaur on Indian television.” The veteran actress also added that Hindi channels have a far wider reach compared to English channels. Simi further revealed that she is unable to express herself in Hindi the way she does in English. Nevertheless, the actress claimed that she is working on it. Rendezvous with Simi Garewal was seen on Star World in 2001. The five seasons of the show included 140 episodes. Some of the most notable guests on her talk show were Amitabh and Jaya Bachchan, Shah Rukh and Gauri Khan, Rekha, Ratan Tata and Hrithik Roshan. Simi Garewal’s India’s Most Desirable After wrapping up Rendezvous with Simi Garewal, the actress hosted another talk show on Star World, Simi Selects India’s Most Desirable. She was seen having a heart-to-heart with some of the most eligible bachelors from India including Ranbir Kapoor, Deepika Padukone, Anushka Sharma and Priyanka Chopra. The show only ran for 22 episodes. During the same media interaction, Simi Garewal alleged that Simi Selects India’s Most Desirable failed to receive the expected response from the audience as they were accustomed to seeing her in her Rendezvous avatar. She added that the viewers were not able to accept her in her new relaxed, and fun avatar on the show. According to Simi Garewal, the chat show received such massive opposition that it was disheartening. Ever since Simi Selects India’s Most Desirable, the actress was not been a part of any talk show.
