Why do men have a problem when a film talks loudly and openly on women’s sexual desires? How difficult is it for men to digest a film that talks about women orgasm and smashing patriarchy? And what’s the harm if women can get their own pleasures themselves? Women masturbate …Why? For the same reasons as men. It’s simple, satisfying, stimulating and fun. More so, we don’t have to fake an orgasm. Or worry about their sagging bodies. Society has a problem with women talking about sexual liberation through their own bodies. In a country when we are talking about Atmanirbhar Bharat, why is there a problem then when women can stratify themselves and don’t really need a man to do it for them. Bhumi Pednekar’s latest chick flick talks exactly about that. It is great to see female stories told with a right punch of humour and fun. Cinema is changing and so are the ideas revolving around women are also changing. Women no longer just play ornamental roles in movies and that’s the best part of today’s films. When Firstpost asked the director of _Thank You For Coming_, Karan Boolani, why a film on women orgasm, he questioned back, “Why not?” And it’s true that we need to be open about women’s desires and talk about them unapologetically.
Talking about the same, Rhea Kapoor, producer for Thank You For Coming shares, “It is a film for this generation and we feel extremely honoured to have the world premiere of our film at TIFF 2023. Even with its unconventional storyline and bold point of view, this movie is an out and out Bollywood entertainer, full of masti and music so it makes this selection that much sweeter! It is a film I am extremely proud of and we couldn’t have asked for a better kick-start. I’ve had the privilege to work with the most talented group of girls that have put their heart and soul into making this movie and we cannot wait for the world to see what we have made.” Bhumi Pednekar plays a woman who has never experienced an orgasm in her life in this new sex comedy by
Karan Boolani. And finally she gets that pleasure which no man in her life could satisfy, when she does it herself. The saddest part in our society is that there is no problem when men talk about their sexual desires or multiple partners. I can totally understand the reason behind the hate for films. Boys films having their own share of fun are acceptable in our society, but when it’s about women, they cringe. Strange isn’t it? [caption id=“attachment_13221802” align=“alignnone” width=“640”] A still from ‘Thank You For Coming’[/caption] On Thank You For Coming The central theme of Karan Boolani’s feature film debut Thank You For Coming is sex and female pleasure. The movie revolves around Kanika Kapoor 32 (Bhumi Pednekar), who has never had an orgasm. She is born to a single mother, a gynecologist who had a child out of wedlock and she has to deal with criticism and bully throughout her life because she is well informed about sex from a young age. Brought up by an independent mother (Natasha Rastogi) who has led her life on her own terms and the society’s narrow minded glare doesn’t really bother her. On the other hand, her daughter, Kanika Kapoor (Bhumi Pednekar) is always on the lookout for appreciation from the opposite sex. And hopes that one day she is going to get married and settle down in life. In the process of finding a right match for herself, she lands up in messy affairs. Thank you for Coming unapologetically about women’s desires. Directed by Karan Boolani and written by Radhika Anand and Prashasti Singh, The film stars Bhumi Pednekar, Shehnaaz Gill, Dolly Singh, Kusha Kapila, Shibani Bedi, Pradhuman Singh Mall, Natasha Rastogi, Gautmik, Sushant Divgikar, Saloni Daini, Dolly Ahluwalia, Karan Kundrra & Anil Kapoor in a special appearance. The message of the film is brilliant. It talks about societal norms and why it is okay to disobey it. In a country where we call chick flicks as women centric films and not a boy gang film to be a male centric film, Thank You For Coming talks about regaining self-esteem. The movie very intelligently talks about sexual orientation too, through Sushant Divgikar aka Rani Kohinoor. For the first time we get to see drag in Thank You For Coming. The film will be remembered for many things first seen in Indian cinema and that is the best part of it!
