And Beetlejuice has finally come back to haunt you after 36 years! Amid a lot of anticipation, Warner Bros. unveiled the teaser for Tim Burton’s follow-up to his 1988 cult classic horror-comedy Beetlejuice. The intriguing clip featured Michael Keaton reprising his role as the ghoulish title character. Meanwhile, the sequel, officially titled Beetlejuice Beetlejuice is scheduled to hit the theatres on September 6, 2024.
The one-minute clip features a glimpse of Wednesday star Jenna Ortega taking on the role of Astrid, the daughter of the iconic Lydia Deetz. It further displayed Winona Ryder and Catherine O’Hara reprising their role of Lydia and Delia Deetz respectively. As the trailer begins, the three generations of the Deetz family — Delia, Lydia, and Astrid can be seen at a funeral, hinting at the death of Lydia’s father, Charles Deetz.
As the teaser proceeds, we can see Michael Keaton’s Beetlejuice making a grand entrance after Lydia finds the mysterious model unearthed by Astrid. The description of the Tim Burton-directed sequel reads, “Still haunted by Beetlejuice, Lydia’s life is turned upside down when her rebellious teenage daughter, Astrid, discovers the mysterious model of the town in the attic and the portal to the Afterlife is accidentally opened.” It added, “With trouble brewing in both realms, it’s only a matter of time until someone says Beetlejuice’s name three times and the mischievous demon returns to unleash his very own brand of mayhem.”
Meanwhile, the original Beetlejuice narrated a deceased couple’s attempts to haunt the Deetz family out of their new home for which they sought help from their eccentric ghost Beetlejuice. The movie, after its release, developed a cult following for itself. Since then, they have been waiting for updates around the sequel of the film.
Last year, in November, Burton shared a delightful update that he had finished filming the Beetlejuice sequel, creating buzz among the audiences. Further hyping the excitement, the teaser of the most anticipated spooky thriller has been released. Notably, Alfred Gough and Miles Millar, creators of the Ortega-starring Netflix series Wednesday, came together to write the script for Beetlejuice Beetlejuice.
