Baywatch trailer: Priyanka Chopra's great but Dwayne Johnson, Zac Efron dominate screen space
The new Baywatch gives a glimpse of the movie's characters, the crimes they will be solving and Priyanka Chopra's evil avatar.
The third trailer of the movie adaptation of the popular TV series Baywatch is out, and it gives us a sneak peak of the chemistry that leads Dwayne Johnson and Zac Efron share, as well as a glimpse of Priyanka Chopra.
"Our team is the elite of the elite," says Dwayne's character Mitch Buchannon, as we see slow-motion shots of the Baywatch team running on the beach in signature red uniforms. "We're gonna have to do what Baywatch does best," claims Buchannon, who is told that he is a lifeguard, not the police. Still, we see the team saving multiple lives in typical Baywatch-style.
There's also a lot of humour in the trailer; in one shot, Buchannon tells the sand sculptor to make sure that vital parts of his body look big and muscular. In another scene, Buchannon and Efron's character Matt Brody are hiding in a morgue where dead bodies are frozen, and as if this was not an uncomfortable enough situation, they find that the ice surrounding the bodies begins to melt.
Baywatch also seems to be able to poke fun at itself. In one shot, Jon Boss' character Ronnie and another lifeguard are staring at a woman on the beach. "Why does she always look like she's running in slow-mo?" the lifeguard asks. "She's the reason I believe in God," Ronnie replies.
Johnson and Efron's characters share a hilarious equation.
It's evident that Priyanka Chopra plays the antagonist in the movie. Buchannon even says that all the accidents and deaths that occurred on their beach began only when she arrived. "Drugs, murder, a dead body on our beach, and it all started when she took over," Buchannon says. "Some people are up to no good," is the dialogue that Chopra utters with much sass.
There's also some casual sexism thrown into the trailer. Efron's character is not even apologetic about staring at his colleague's breasts when she points out that her eyes are not on her chest.
Baywatch has been directed by Seth Gordon and stars Dwayne Johnson, Zac Efron, Alexandra Daddario, Kelly Rohrbach, Priyanka Chopra, Jon Bass and Ilfenesh Hadera. It releases on 26 May, 2017.
