While critics panned the Luv Ranjan directed movie for being formulaic, monotonous and immature, audiences reacted in a very different manner. People seemed to love the movie directed by the maker of the highly successful Pyaar Ka Punchnama franchise. Sonu Ke Titu Ki Sweety starred Pyaar Ka Punchnama stars Nushrat Bharucha, Kaartik Aaryan and Sunny Singh. Despite lack of big names, the movie managed to mint over Rs 100 crore at the domestic box office. The same can be said about Baaghi 2. Tiger, who has starred only in moderately successful flicks or box-office disasters , scored his first Rs 100 crore movie with the Ahmed Khan directorial. Tiger, who has been trying to establish himself as the go-to actor for action and/or dance films, managed to sign a movie that caters to all his needs at this point in his career. Older stars seem to be taking a back seat, and factors such as genre of the movie, buzz created from teasers and trailers and playing to the strengths of the lead actors are proving to be more fruitful in the long run. Many other movies, with some of the biggest names attached to them, have not been able to fare well at the box-office, when compared to the younger stars’ hits. Be it Ajay Devgn’s Raid, which is very close to cracking the Rs 100 crore mark in its third week, has been one of the better performers. Akshay Kumnar’s Pad Man, a movie marketed heavily as an agent of social change, was able to collect a total of Rs 81.76 crore. Talking about contemporaries of Tiger Shroff and Kaartik Aaryan, Sidharth Malhotra-starrer Aiyaary turned out to a huge disappointment with a collection of just Rs 23.36 crore domestically. October stars Varun Dhawan and Banita Sandhu as Dan and Shiuli. They play two young hotel management trainees whose ordinary lives are shaken up after a traumatic event. Dhawan, who has scored four Rs 100 crore hits (Judwaa 2, Dilwale, Badrinath Ki Dulhania and ABCD 2), has tried his hand at roles that are more challenging and rooted in content. Dhawan is know for doing mainstream, masala flicks, but has been seen in Sriram Raghavan’s Badlapur for which his performance was critically appreciated. With October, Dhawan would want to do the same, but also commercially and cross Rs 100 crores.
