Anushka Sharma was all set to give her fans a new film after the 2018 Zero. This was Indian Cricketer Jhulan Goswami’s biopic called Chakda Xpress. The actress was preparing for the role before the pandemic happened. The film was all set to release directly on Netflix.
There have been a lot of reports that there was a fallout between the streaming giant and the producers of the film Clean Slate Films. It has been more than four years and the fate of the film continues to hang in the balance. They have a lot of reports that the film has been shelved.
Chakda Xpress to be revived?
However, Midday states that the makers plan to revive the project post Indian team’s Women’s World Cup triumph.
“We have personally written to top executives at Netflix India to see if they can rise above the conflict so that the film can see the light of day. A biopic on a legend like Jhulan di deserves to reach the audience,” a source said.
“The production house went over-budget. What added to the woes was that the platform heads didn’t like the way the project was shaping up. But it’s still a solid film,” the insider added.
“The recent victory has put the attention back on the biopic. Internal discussions at the streamer have started, and the team is expected to take a final pass this month to determine if it can be released after additional work,” added another source.
Renuka Shahane on Netflix and Anushka Sharma’s ‘Chakda Xpress’ getting shelved
The actress revealed, “I am totally heartbroken. Basically, because I think everyone has put in so much effort. Anushka has also worked on herself so much for it. And whatever scenes I did were so powerful and so impactful, especially for women in sports.”
She added, “Jhulan Goswami is iconic and coming from a very poor house and making it big and yet the kind of discrepancy that still exists between men’s cricket and women’s cricket and all other sports, I would say. Chakda Xpress had that core quality of sportsmanship.”
