The Kashmir Files, helmed by Vivek Agnihotri, was much appreciated by moviegoers and film critics. Now, in a recent interaction, lead actor Anupam Kher said that his performance in the film deserved the National Award. The actor added that he did not have to ‘fake his emotions’ while playing the ‘soulful’ role of a Kashmiri pandit in the flick. The Bollywood’s veteran was speaking at the literary festival Abhivyakti organised by the Army Wives Welfare Association in Pune. Speaking at the event, Anupam Kher said, “My role in The Kashmir Files was soulful as I did not have to depend on acting. I did not have to fake my emotions. I try to bring out the truth in my emotions as some roles do not require honesty of that level because it requires craft.” The celebrated actor, however, added that whoever was given the National Award truly deserved it. Allu Arjun was awarded the National Award for Best Actor for his role in Pushpa: The Rise - Part 1. Anupam Kher lauded the actor saying, “I applauded Allu Arjun when I saw Pushpa in a theatre. I had tweeted about it.” However, he went on to add that he is free to express his feelings and that he can feel bad about not bagging the award. Nevertheless, The Kashmir Files won two awards - Best Feature Film on National Integration and Best Supporting Actress for Pallavi Joshi - at the 69th National Film Awards.
