Akshay Kumar and Ajay Devgn clashed once again with their respective films Bade Miyan Chote Miyan and Maidaan this EID. Both the films that released on the festive season were expected to bring in some repute and respite to the industry but unfortunately bit the dust at the ticket windows. Lavishly mounted and outrageously expensive, the supposed juggernauts are likely to incur a loss of over Rs 100 crore.

Speaking to Bollywood Hungama, several trade experts and exhibitors opined as to what went wrong. For Kumar’s film, Taran Adarsh observed, “The film has scale, face value and mass appeal. The makers haven’t cut corners. But the problem is that there’s no content in the film. Yes, there’s a lot of action that is very well executed. But there has to be some content and emotional thread to connect with. Secondly, there has been an overdose of India vs Pakistan in our films.”

He continued, “The humour doesn’t work. The romance is as good as missing. Also, they claim that the film boasts of world-class action. Lekin world class action toh Hollywood mein dekh sakte hai. That sole factor cannot draw in audiences.“

The owner of Jaipur’s multiplex Entertainment Paradise Raj Bansal said, “Everything went wrong. Nothing went in favour of the film – from the casting to the trailer to marketing. The film was overhyped and it went short of expectations. Also, it’s sad but both Akshay and Tiger are not working at the box office. When your last movie doesn’t click, it affects the prospects of your next film.”

**Maidaan**

Adarsh said, “Producer Boney Kapoor is one of the shrewdest brains that we have today. I am saying this in a very good way. Maidaan was also backed by Zee Studios which has experienced people in the team. What I failed to understand was the timing of the release of Maidaan. It’s not an Eid film. A film like this needs to be nurtured and grow over a period of time. On Eid, viewers are not going to watch a serious drama.”

Bansal stated, “The trailer didn’t work. Also, the film was under-publicized. These factors affected the film. Bade Miyan Chote Miyan’s promotion overshadowed it. Also, people were no_t sure ki Maidaan exactly kab aa rahi hai.”_
