Ajay Devgn and Priyamani starrer Maidaan, which hit the screens yesterday, has opened to positive reviews across the nation. Legendary writer and lyricist Javed Akhtar watched the film and showered praises for the including and lauded cast and crew for their phenomenal work.
Taking to X, (previously known as Twitter), Akhtar wrote, “I watched “ maidan “ It is a true story that will make every Indian proud of our certain national achievements that unfortunately most of us don’t know about . A must watch . Congratulations to producer Boney kapur , director Amit Sharma and to Ajay Devgan who has given a mind blowing performance .”

Directed by Amit Sharma of Badhaai Ho fame, the film also features Priyamani and Gajraj Rao in prominent roles. It clashed with Akshay Kumar and Tiger Shroff starrer Bade Miyan Chote Miyan at the box office.
Talking about the review, Firstpost gave the sports drama 3 stars and wrote, “Based on a true story, _Maidaan_ , despite its flaws, mirrors the selflessness and stubbornness of its central character. Both refuse to give up despite being bogged down by the circumstances around them. Rahim lands up in a spontaneous and impromptu meeting with Indian PM Jawaharlal Nehru for his boys, he even sends his son back home when he’s forced to drop two players from the team. And guess what? His fierce attitude even forces Gajraj Rao to come out of the shackles of his villainy. He also gets some wonderful moments with his wife, played by the magnetic Priyamani. Their chemistry begins with playfulness where she desires to speak English and he jokingly corrects her. Their marriage is shaken after a devastating news but the purple patch lasts only as long as a hushed conversation”
